He also won the "Top Gun Award" for highest firearms score and "Commandants Award" for overall excellence. He began his police career in patrol, on midnight shift. After a year in uniform, David was assigned to a multi-jurisdictional drug task force, where he was the assistant agent in charge and worked undercover for over five years. During that time, he participated in over 800 undercover narcotics buys and acted as a door breacher during high risk entry operations. David has worked undercover with the FBI, DEA, ATF, Postal Inspectors and the HUD Office of Inspector General. David received two commendations from the Federal Bureau of Investigations during his service in the drug task force. One of these involved the capture of a pedophile as he attempted to flee the area with a kidnapped juvenile.
After being promoted to sergeant, David left the drug unit and returned to uniform as a patrol and investigations leader, once again on night shift. He was promoted to police chief in 2004. During his time as chief, he restructured the organization and led the agency to becoming accredited through CALEA. He was a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force and several other federal, state and local boards of control.
In 2012, David became a pioneer in police social media, developing the agency Facebook page to to an eventual 179,000 followers- second to only NYPD. He has also written a book and hosted a weekend FM radio talk show.
David retired from policing in 2015 and joined a Fortune 500 Company as a Special Investigations Manager. He worked large-scale pattern and organized fraud cases and developed data driven metrics for identifying fraud.
David has been a contributor on local news stations along with CNN, Fox News, NBC and countless other TV and radio programs. He has spoken at the Ohio State House and also been a guest lecturer at the United States Military Academy at West Point; and at numerous other scholarly and social functions.
